Surgical Intervention

Surgical intervention is an option for patients who have not responded to other therapies. Surgery completely eliminates or significantly decreased the occurrence or pain associated with migraines by removing migraine trigger sites. Trigger sites include small muscles that may be pinching nerves in the head or deviated septum causing sinus inflammation.

Headache Response Center is the only Headache Center in Illinois with a craniofacial surgeon on board that specializes in this treatment. The surgery is performed under deep sedation or general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Surgical intervention has been studied for over 10 years and when patients are appropriately selected the response rate is around 90 percent.
